Series Consequences # 1

Book #1 of the Bestselling Consequences series:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a suspenseful thriller about secrets and deception, passion and love, choices and consequences.

Every action has consequences.

Waking in an unfamiliar bedroom in a luxurious mansion, Claire Nichols is terrified to discover that a chance encounter led her into the cruel hands of her abductor, Anthony Rawlings. Claire has no understanding of why she’s there, but it’s been made abundantly clear—she is now his acquisition and every action has consequences.

Learn the rules to survive.

Facing incomprehensible circumstances, Claire must learn to survive her new reality—every aspect of her livelihood depends upon the tall, dark-eyed tycoon who is a true master of deception. Driven by unknown demons, he has no tolerance for imperfection, in any aspect of his life, including his recent acquisition. Anthony may appear to the world as a handsome, benevolent businessman, but in reality Claire knows firsthand that he’s a menacing, controlling captor with very strict rules: do as you’re told, public failure is not an option, and appearances are of the utmost importance.

Captivate the captor.

To fit together the pieces of the puzzle, Claire must follow his rules. Will her plan work, or will Anthony become enthralled by Claire’s beauty, resilience, and determination, changing the game forever? If that happens, will either of them survive the consequences?

Nobody ever did or ever will escape the consequences of his choices.—Alfred A. Montapert

So are you telling me all of this pain and suffrage is because of some vendetta. A vendetta because one person was caught doing something wrong. A vendetta that I’m not even sure all parties involved knew about or even alive to know about.  Stop it. I don’t not want to play this game anymore.

Consequences has been on my to read list for when seems like forever. I learned about this title after reading Captive in the Dark by CJ Roberts. While these two have some similar paraphernalia there are completely two different beast. The erotic factor is very glossed over and the romance is not really romance but more so the idea of it.

Claire is trusting way too trusting. Her lack of suspicion in a well dressed, handsome man has land her in a mansion like prison. A prison that she had no way out of until Anthony “Tony” Rawlings was done with her. Consequences felt like one of the many Lifetime domestic violence movies that you find yourself yelling at the heroine to figure out a way to get away, but it never happened. At one point Tony appeared to give Claire a way out and she didn’t take it. Whyyyyyyy.

When embarking on this physiological mind f*k I was convinced I would be gravitating towards that stockholm syndrome feeling induced by Ms. Romig’s writing, but just when I was close I was doused with reality. Tony had zero redeeming qualities about him and he’s a bully and I really really don’t like him.

While I slightly disappointed that I procrastinated on reading Consequences, I think it all worked out since I DO NOT have to wait for Truth to be release to find out what happens next. Win for me.

Review:The Letting by Cathrine Goldstien

The Letting
Release Date: 12/15/14
335 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
What if the Devil doesn’t know he’s the Devil?

This is the question Veronica “Ronnie” Billings poses to Phoenix, her sworn enemy, the leader of the Peaceful Revolution, and the one she loves.

Kidnapped by Phoenix’s rebels, Ronnie learns how wrong she has been. She had no idea that her patriotism was wasted on a corrupt government. Ronnie was proud to be a Leader; taking hundreds of harvested girls to the Letting facility. After all, she was saving them from future Couplings and bringing them to the safety of the New World. Or so she thought…

Confused, Ronnie realizes the only way to discover the truth is to trust her heart. Together, Phoenix and Ronnie devise a plan to stop their corrupt government and preempt the dangerous rebel coup which is approaching. But when their plan goes awry, will Ronnie be strong enough to save Phoenix, her country, and herself?

So who authorized a cliffhanger. Unacceptable! I needed to know what's going to happen next and I would like that to happen sooner than later. The Letting just happens to be my first experience with Cathrine Goldstein's work and I will say that I was quite impressed. I was out in the mindset of Hunger Games meet In Time (Justin Timberlake and Dakota Fanning). Immediately within the first few pages I was drawn in and my attention didn't wonder did the most part. I have to admit there were few spots that I told my eyes and began to become irradiated with everything and everyone, but it all without in the end.

"What if the Devil doesn't know he's the Devil ?"

This just happens to be the million dollar question the great, Veronica Billings is faced with. For years her ignorance has lead countless of young girls down a path of false hours and dreams. While I attempted to understand  she was left in the dark for so long, I just couldn't wrap my mind around how little she knew. I felt like don't you ever wonder or ask questions. This new world / way of life leeching (literally) was mind blowing and inhumane.

Veronica's world is sent into orbit once her path crosses with a few rebels that have it out for her. Especially the leader Phoenix. The energy between these two was so electrifying everyone in proximity could feel it too. What started as the utmost contempt morphed into something they could not and did not want to deny for each other.

Everything about The Letting was enjoyable even the intermittent annoyance because of the angst of it all. The flow of the writing kept my undiagnosed ADD at bay. Even the secondary characters were interesting and added much to the storyline. I'm not sure why I don't read more dystopian because I'm slowly being a fan of it. What I do know is that when Ms. Goldstein announces the sequel I will definitely indulge.

Given my love for cities and all that is gritty, my new obsession with trees really has me stumped. (Sorry.) Maybe it's because trees are the inspiration behind my new YA/NA novel, theLETTING.

Whatever the reason for my new infatuation, some things remain constant -- like my love for: coffee (although sadly, it's now decaf); yoga; Luna bars (I am petitioning for them to bring back Chocolate Raspberry!); running in my neighborhood; Hemingway; Bukowski... and, above all, my husband and my girls.

I am the author of the bestselling novel, Sleeping With Mortals: The Story of a New York Mistress, and I'm also a playwright. I have my B.A. in English and my M.A. in Theatre.

Review: Autumn in London Part 2 by Louise Bay

Part 2 of the The Empire State Trilogy
Releasing December 2, 2014
Anna Kirby went to New York to escape heartbreak and have some fun. She wasn't meant to meet someone . . . someone like Ethan. Now, back in London, she's faced with another man to get over.
Ethan Scott broke every one of his rules during his week with Anna and now he can't seem to go back to life before her. A business trip to London gives him the opportunity to change his rules for good. Will he take it?

Autumn in London is the second part of The Empire State Series, a series of three novellas.

Louise Bay is rightfully becoming one of my new favorite authors. Autumn in London is the second installment of the Empire State Trilogy and I’m absolutely enjoying it. The characters likable and not full of unnecessary drama.

Anna is finally back in London after her amazing time with Ethan and just so happens things are NOT going amazing for her, the uncertainty with work, needing find a new place, missing the one she wants to be with.

As fate would have it no other way Ethan finds himself on the same side of the pond as Anna for work related reason - but it doesn't matter- their paths cross making for some hot and steaminess.

While I understand why these two decided not to keep each other’s contact info, but doing so made them but equally miserable. Speaking of being miserable that would have to one of the words that will describe my mood until I am able to read the final installment of these two affair.

About the Author

I write sexy, romantic, contemporary novels - the kind I like to read!
Ruined by romantic mini-series of the seventies and eighties, I love all things romantic. There's not enough of it in real life so I'll settle for books and films.
I love the rain, the West Wing, London, days when you don't have to wear make-up, being alone, being with friends, elephants and champagne.

Amazon ** Barnes and Noble ** iBooks ** Kobo

WICKED Synopsis:

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

It was him. Green Eyes. Ren. That was his name. Now I remembered. I started to step forward, but he beat me to it. Moving as quickly as a damn snake striking, he caught my wrists. He didn’t yank my arms to my sides. All he did was hold my fists away from his face.
A lopsided grin appeared on those full lips. “Can’t say I’m entirely surprised you took a swing at me.”
“Then I guess this won’t surprise you either.” Leaning back, I shifted my weight onto my left leg, but again, Ren outmaneuvered me with a quickness that was sort of embarrassing.
He stepped into what would’ve been a fantastic kick and forced me back against the wall. Then there was nowhere to go, no space whatsoever. My back was against the building, and the entire length of his hard body was pressed against mine.
Son of a bitch.
As if he could read my mind, that grin spread and the dimples played peekaboo. “Now I think we can have a conversation without me ending up bloody.”
I blew out an aggravated breath. “I wouldn’t bet on that not happening.”
He chuckled, and the sound rumbled through me. I couldn’t even remember being this close to a guy since . . . since Shaun. “Look, I’m sorry for snatching you off the street like a kidnapper, but you were about to make yet another huge mistake.”
His apology was lost on me. “Make another mistake?”
“Yeah, like the one last night that ended with you getting shot.” He dipped his chin, and the yellow glow of the light attached to the wall above us glanced off his broad cheekbones. “I know what you were about to do.”
“I didn’t make a mistake last night. I was doing my job,” I spat. “And I doubt your job includes grabbing chicks off the street.”
“That would be a hell of a lot more entertaining, but the moment you thought you could engage that fae last night, you made a mistake. And you were about to do it again, you little ass.”
“Little ass?” I sputtered. “You grabbed me off the street like a serial killer!”
“And I’ve apologized for that even though you should be thanking me. I just saved your life, sweetness.”
Floored, all I could do was stare at him for a moment. “You’re insane.”
“I’m a lot of things, but today I’m your fucking saving grace.”

I AM

During some "spring cleaning" I found an old journal from my high school days. I'm not sure if I should consider them poems or just things I needed to get off my chest. This journal was my therapy and some days to be honest I wish I still had that same passion for writing. At the time I never wanted anyone to read my words because they were mine and mine alone. So I'm going out on a limb and sharing my past thoughts with whoever eyes they land old and who knows maybe posting this will inspire me to pick up where I left off.

WeHeartIt.com

I am just a young lady
I wonder why people won't let me be
I hear the way b***hes speak of me
I see the way n***ahs look at me
I want them to stop lookin at me
I am just a young lady
I pretend that its all about me
I feel people should respect me
I hope to touch people's hearts with my poetry
I worry that I'm misunderstood
I cry when the stress adds up
I am just a young lady
I understand that I can achieve anything
I say life is how you live it
I dream that all this (the finer things in life) could be mine
I try not to let people get the best of me
I hope life starts to get easy
I am just a young lady

I wish I could say how often I will share a past thought, but I'm not sure as of right now. My guess as of now is when the urge for sharing hits me again.

Review: RELEASE DAY BLITZ -Body of Law, Volume 1 by Amanda Lance

Body of Law, Volume 1 by Amanda Lance
RELEASE DAY BLITZ

December 4, 2014
This routine is
killing me.

Day in and day out,

it’s; the same thing: go to work, bed a whore, get a criminal off on a
technicality— pretty standard for one of Chicago’s most established criminal
defense attorneys. Yet I’m almost positive that if I don’t find something to
get me out of this rut I’ll go as crazy as the murders I defend.

And when Violet
Donovan walks in, the smart-mouthed intern who is anything but routine, I’m sure
those pouty lips and fuck-me eyes are just what I need to get my cock and love
for the law twitching again.

Too bad she also
happens to be the daughter of the man who once tried to mentor
me.

Too bad she’s
completely off limits.

Volume 1 of Body of Law just happens to be my first experience with Amanda Lance’s writing and while it was not a complete winner I did enjoy it just the same.

Violet Donovan, made it to the top of her class now finds herself when a paid internship with one of the city’s most prestigious criminal law firm. Soon she realizes that she is assigned to her one of her father’s previous student and crush Sebastian Scott. Almost immediately the tension between these two is palpable, but Violet is determined not to allow that to stand in her way.

Truthfully there is NOT a plethora of highlighting qualities in regards to Sebastian. He’s mean, self absorbed, a womanizer ( and its not in a good way, I know there’s really not any good way for this quality but some people can pull it off with some form of swag. I digress. While currently I have a disdain for him the fact that he came to Violet’s aid when she was being harassed by one of the other associates made him appear more humanlike.

I’m sure the reason things progress fairly quickly is due to the fact that its a serial novel, but I found myself getting lost and having to go back. The interchanging of the first and last names of the characters threw me for a loop as well. Despite all of that the writing style kept my attention and made me want more. So once volume 2 is made available I WILL be reading it.
